Chris Anderson Launches Elections Academy

Sanford, Fla. (June 05, 2019) – To ensure Seminole County residents have unwavering faith their vote counts, Supervisor of Elections Chris Anderson is launching a new initiative to provide a unique look into how votes are counted.
The Elections Academy will allow select Seminole County residents the opportunity to learn and experience all facets of an election through an eight-week course led by Anderson and senior officials.

“Voters across our community have questions about how we ensure every vote counts and I want to give citizens the opportunity to become their community’s experts on the process,” Anderson says. “For someone who is highly interested in the bedrock of our American democracy – voting – this is a great way to understand all of the aspects of the process.”

During the Elections Academy, participants will learn about topics such as:

• Election setup
• Ballot design
• Vote-by-mail processing
• Canvassing
• Election Day execution
• Candidate qualifying
• Polling logistics
• Equipment logistics

“The mission for my office is to ‘ensure your choice counts’ and the Elections Academy is truly an opportunity for the average citizen to learn and to become involved,” Anderson says. “This is not intended for political parties or people who want to run for office. This is for the residents who just want to learn about all the aspects of elections.”

The inaugural class of the Elections Academy runs from July 9 through September 3 and is limited to 12 people. All individuals must be a registered Seminole County voter and pass a background check.
